Tech With Mr Grundy

 This week was our first week of tech the year eights headed down with Mr Grundy, and the year seven were with Mrs Heka. We were doing hard material with Mr Grundy, as we got to our workspace Mr Grundy had a few ground rules to set before we got to work. When the ground rules were set we had a look at the other creations and then we started planning our design. We had to pick eight design that we could create and then we show Mr Grundy. After showing him he will check your eights picks, and then he will see if they are good or they need a bit more work. Today was really fun getting to know our new tech teacher and learning something new.

PB4L - Positive Behaviour For Learning

LI: To learn how to have positive behaviour for learning
For this week task for PB4L, meaning positive behaviour for learning. First we recapped on what we learnt last week about this topic, then started a new topic, permission for leaving the classroom. When you need to go to the bathroom or need to go out of the class for whatever reason you must tell the teacher for permission to go out of the classroom, and for netbook treatment, last week topic, you must have a case whenever you leave the room, if you don't have a working netbook case you can not take you netbook outside. I found this task very interesting because I got to learn more about how to take care of your netbook, and to ask for permission whenever you go out of the classroom.

Worm Tunnel Art - Optical Illusion

LI: To create an illusion that catches the eye.
This week we had an art task. This task was trying to make a piece of art which was an worn tunnel. This piece of art was an optical illusion, meaning it's a piece of art that catches the eye in which case so does my art. It took time and patience to create this piece  of art. I found this task very interesting and enjoyable because we got to learn about optical illusion and got to learn more about art. This art would look very stunning because of the colours and the shading.

 

FInding The Most Efficient Strategy

LI:  To find the most efficient strategy
  
For this week maths challenge we were learning to solve addition and subtraction questions. After we did the five math question we needed to make a DLO about how we solve the math problem and show our working out. The strategy I used when I was doing these math problems was algorithm. Algorithm really helped me because even though I got the questions wrong I still learnt something. I found this task very interesting because i learnt a new way to do math questions.

Nga Mihi

LI: To create a visual mihi that allows others to connect to us and our place in the world.

At this time of year when we are meeting new people we are still getting to know each other. One way we can do this is by sharing our mihi. This way others will know who we are and will be able to make connections to us and our place in the world. We made a google slide showing our mihi and images we had drawn. Lastly we made a screencastify of ourselves reading our mihi. I found this task really enjoyable because I got to learn my mihi and got to share to the others who read my blog. 

 

TEEL Paragraph

LI: To understand how TEEL paragraphs can help us structure our information and ideas in a paragraph

We use paragraphs in our writing to expand on an idea. In LS2 we use the TEEL acronym (Title, Elaborate, Evidence and Link) to help us structure our thinking. The example on my DLO shows our Explanation using the TEEL structure and a little bit about how the TEEL acronmy helps you and what it does to improve on your explanation writing. I found this task very interesting because since we just started back at school our minds may have forgotten a bit when we went into our holiday, so it was very fun jumping back into our learning and remembering how to do things.

CYbersmart Task 2

LI: To be cybersmart with chromebook and to understand parts of your chromebook



When using your chromebook there are others ways you can do thing faster than the original way. We calls they way shortcuts, shortcuts help us with our learning. Our second part of this task was learning about our keyboard and about short cuts. For this task we had to find out the short cuts for different things like how to copy or paste.We had to complete a slide deck showing how to learn to know your keys. The first slide we spelt our names on a picture of a keyboard showing who completed the slide deck. Slide two tests how well we know the keyboard by point the right text to the right key. The last slide we had to write down the shortcuts we know. I found this task interesting because I learnt new shortcuts I could use.We did this so that other people can learn the shortcut to help them do better with their learning.

Cybersmart Task 1

 LI: To learn the kawa of care.





When you take your chromebook home you must first learn what and how the kawa of care helps your take good care of your chromebook when it's at home.Our first part of our cybersmart task was about the kawa of care. We had to complete three posters showing how you take care of your chromebook.The first poster is about when your using your chromebook, for example do not have and liquid  near you when using your chromebook because it might damage your chromebook. Poster  two was about when moving your chromebook, for example you must have your computer closed when walking about with it, poster three was a summary of the first and second poster. I found this task interesting because I got to learn how to look after a chromebook.

Summary of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.

     

The Treaty of Waitangi was made to bring peace to New Zealand. Our task was to read a text about how the Treaty of Waitangi began. We used used respical reading to help us understand the text more. When we completed reading the text, we were using  summarizing template to help us create a  short paragraph telling us about the story. We had to use this template to complete our paragraph, first we had to find 20 important words for the text then for the 20 words we had to find the 6 most important words and then turn the 6 words into a paragraph that summarises the text and the treaty of waitangi.This task was really fun because we got to learn more about our past and what happened when the britain came to New Zealand.
