Y Chart

LI: to make inferences about the events in the text using clues provided by the author.

Our focus was based around inferring what athletes were thinking, seeing and wondering during the Olympics. In order to do this, we looked at an image which had information that we could point out to form our inferences. By looking at the images, we could see that the athletes had completed the swimming and are taking an after photo. Some inferences we made for feel/see were: the athletes might have felt nervous and cold, they could have been proud of what they accomplished, seeing their names of the scoreboard and how they felt determined to win.

The image shown on the DLO was of Violet Walrond and other athlete competitors. Violet Walrond was a young athlete who competed in the Olympics at the age of fifteen. She was the youngest and first ever swimmer in New Zealand to use the crawl technique. Violet also was the first female to compete in the Olympics, representing New Zealand.

Flow CHarts & Radio Chat

LI: To code the micor bit to use the radio to send messages.

This week for coding our lesson was about flow charts and radio chat. We were working with the microbits. Our task for today were split into two. Our first part of the task was to complete the flow charts with different coding shapes. The next part of the task was about trying to code out microbit to send radio singals  to another micro bit. For this part of the task we had to work in partners. We nad to make sure both microbits were on the same grouo number so we didn't accidentally get a message from another group.

SUPER FINGERS Competition

LI: To recall our timetable quickly.

Today for maths we have recalled our multiplication knowledge by playing a game called Super Fingers. This is a game to see how well and how fast you can answer questions, by using dice.

The instructions of this game is that we need to write a phrase on a white board or piece of paper. Then you will need to roll 2 dice which we will multiply by, and the first person to call out the answer will take one of the letters out. The first person to have all of the letters rubbed out will win the game

The process we did it in was similar to a netball game, draw, quarter finals, semi finals, and lastly finals. To run this competition smoothly we created a bracket which showed who will versus who. Our bracket was now even so later in the game we did a wild card who were Vayan and Micah.

In pairs we challenged each other to see who was faster at answering the questions. The winner would go against the winner from another person. Whoever wins goes up against another winner, and it will keep going until there are two people left, which would be the finals.

The two people facing each other in the finals were Afatia and Chris.
I enjoyed this game very much becasue I got to learn my time tables faster.

Afatia was the winner of the finals.

Provocation

LI: To use provocation to understand both sides of a story.

Our focus this week for reading was based on the Olympics & provocation. We used provocation to understand both side of the question asked. The question was should host countries spend so much money on building the Olympic venues? Our opinion was that host countries should not spend a massive amount of money on the olympics, since the former buildings used to host the olympics. We think that the billions of dollars used to other countries are facing difficult times. I found this task interesting because seeing both side of the story meant different people see the story with different opinion.

Olympic Math Challenge 2

LI: To fidn the most efficient strategy

This week for maths, our learning was based on the Olympics. Our first challenge was about Michael Phelps. This task was about Nastia Liukin. The question sayed The Olympic sport of gymnastics is judged with a point system. Nastia Liukin, an uneven bar champion scored a disappointing 16.725 in Bejing putting her in second place. Her opponent beat her by 0.001 of a point. The Bronze medal winner's score was a 14.975.What was the Gold medal winners score? By how much did Nastia score over the Bronze medalist? We had to find out how much of a point nastia opponent score was, and we also had to find out how much did Nastia score over the bronze medalist. I found this task intersting becase we learn new way of trying to solve different math equations.

Olympic Math Challenge 1

LI: To find the most efficient strategy when trying to solve a question.

This week for maths, our learning was based on the Olympics. Our first challenge was about Michael Phelps. The question was, on average, every swim stroke Michael Phelps takes gets him 2 meters down the pool. Michael competed in 8 separate events during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, It meant that we had to find out how many meters Michael swam for his  gold medals. In total Michael swam 1500m in all eight events. When it says that every stroke Michael takes he ends up to meters down the pool. If he swims two meters in one storke that means 1500 neededs to be divided by 2. The answer is 750, which means Michael Phelps did 750 storkes to get to the 1,500m range.

Tech - Matariki Stars

LI: To code the mbot to make a star, as it's Matariki.

This week for tech is the last week for term two, this week was also about the Makariki celebration because it was Matariki on Wenstday. Today we learnt about how to code the mbot to make a star shape with a pen taped to it. We had to figure how long the mbot will turn and how long the mbot will go in the straight line. This week was very intersting because we got to lern about Matariki and to learn more about coding the mobt to do more complex stuff.

Coding In Python

LI: To learn how to code the Microbit in python mode.

This first one shows the Python coding for a flashing heart. It flashes bewtween a small heart icon and a large heart icon. The main thing to notice between the Python codning and the blocks is that the forever loop is at the top ans the bottom of the content in both.During tech we have noticed that when your coding with the Python mode it will show you where you go wrong and it show you how you can change it. In tech I found this task very intersting because this was the first time we have been coding in the Python mode.

Greek Mythology

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers. David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this smart searching activity, we used our comprehension and research skills to learn about the difference between Athens and Sparta.

Greek Mythology

LI: To research the names of an ancient greek map.

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers. David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. The next task we did was to Research the words from the list and organize the words by writing the words down on the table. This task was also about extending our knowledge and the greek gods. I found this task very fun because learning about the history of the greek god will help us.

Greek Mythology

LI:To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology.

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers. David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this smart searching activity, we used our comprehension and research skills to learn about Greek Mythology vocabulary and identify Greek places on the map. I found this activity fun because learning about the places on the map will help us in the future task.
