Technological Practice

LI: To use technological practices process to design a toy.    
For Mrs Fisi’iahi’s Inquiry lesson, we were focusing on the three last technological processes. They were: build, test and evaluate. We used the required materials in order to build the AUV rover. After this, we tested and compared each group’s rover to see which group was able to scramble across the floor the furthest. Evaluating our results was the last step. I found this activity very fun because after learning about the six technological process and when we were making our toy.

Gold CARE Awards : Respected Leader

LI: To create a DLO about a respected New Zelander.
For one of my CARE Awards for gold we needed to make a DLO about a respected New Zelander.Steven Adamsis a respected New Zelander because of how he is a New Zelander who made it into the New Orleans Pelicans. .I chose Steven Adams for two reasons.One was that I have already done some research about him so it was easy for me to create the DLO and because I'm doing work about him for writing. I enjoyed making this DLO because I got to learn more about steven adams and what he does for a living.

PBS Poster

LI: To create a poster showcasing life at panmure bridge school.
One of my Gold Respect task were to create a poster showcasing life at PBS. This poster shows all the things we do as a school. Some of the photos are when the year sevens and eights were at camp and the smiles in the picture shows how many people enjoyed being at camp. I personally enjoyed it very much and will logve to go again if I had a chance too. The others photos show different classes and a photo of the people who got certificets and prizes for partiitpating in the summer learning journey. I enjoyed this task very much because I got to show others how well our school is.

Gold Respect Thank You Note

LI: To create a thank you letter to a staff member os teacher.

Today we were continuing our C.A.R.E for this block. For this task I completed one of my Gold Respect work. I did this task showing a thank you letter for one of the teacher, of staff member. I wrote about Mrs Mclean and how she has done everything for this class and also me.She was one of the assjetant teachers that were in the class when our recent teachers were not avaible in the classroom.I enjoyed this task very much because I was able to make Mrs Mclean very pleased when I showed her my completed work.

Maths - Exponents

 LI: To explore exponents

Our maths focus was to understand how to solve equations that contain or use exponents. Exponents are small numbers that take place next to numbers on the top right. For example 23  is a number containing an exponent because there is a smaller number taking place on the top right of a larger number.An exponent number determines how many times the number is multiplied by itself, for example 2is equal to 2x2x2 because it is multiplying itself by three (which is the exponent number). 2x2x2 is 8, and we can solve this by knowing 2x2 is 4, and 4x2 is 8.

For our keeping clever task, we solved the exponents 56, 29, 64, 93, 10and 75. I solved these by multiplying 5x5x5x5x5x5=15,625, 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2=512, 6x6x6x6=1,296, 9x9x9=729, 10x10x10x10=10,000 and 7x7x7x7x7-16,807. The strategies I used were repeated addition and long multiplication.The next part of our set maths task was to organize the exponents answers in chronological order from smallest to largest. The order is 512 (29), 729 (93), 1296 (64), 10000 (104), 15925 (56) and 16807 (75). I created a DLO to display the strategy and learning that I used for this lesson.

I found this task very fun because I was able to practice multiplication.

Provocation

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to provocation. 
 
A provocation is a purposeful action meant to bring out lawful or political topics with the desired caused to make someone angry or upset in mental, physical or emotional form. In short, a provocation is an action taken with desire to cause others to have strong feelings about a topic or issue. However, our DLO was not created for the purpose of making others angry but to share our opinion on the events of the 1970s, respectfully. In 1970, the New Zealand government sent armed police officers and dog squads to the homes of Polynesian people. They had batons and megaphones and would brutally force people without a current work visa out of their own houses and deport them back to their country of birth. In response, a group called the “Polynesian Panthers” were formed. The Polynesian Panthers were a group of university students protesting against the Dawn Raids and the rights for Social Injustice. ‘Power to the oppressed’. The authorities who were meant to keep New Zealand a safe place had permission to abuse their power in order to kick Pasifikan’s out of their homes. With this in mind, we think that our Government today (Labour) does not need to apologize for the actions of the past Government (National) not only because they are separate parties but also because Jacinda Ardern and her party is not at fault for the racist actions taken by National. However, we think that the current leader of National (Judith Collins) and the National Party members of today should be the one to issue an apology on behalf of those responsible for these events. This is because she is the head of National which is the party who were the cause of the Dawn Raids and deportation of polynesian people. However, they do need to issue an apology publicly as it can potentially fix the open wounds that remain today. The apology should be proposed by the correct party members as a sign of empathy and remorse.

Gold Attitude : Making A Video About Showing Positive Attitude


This week I have been doing my CARE awards and have been completing it this week. For this task we had to create a video explaining ho you can have a positive attitude. In this video I talked about why it is important to have a positive attitude and how you have a positive attitude when you're with and friend or when you're school. I found this task very intersting because I got to show people how they have a good positive attitude at school or at home or when you go somewhere else

ASB Get Wise

 LI: To learn how to be wiser with your money.

Today we had a Get Wise session from ASB with Marlon . First we talked about two main parts of when you have money, it was if you were going to spend or save your money. Second of all we were seperated into groups of 4 and 5. Then Marlon said to us tht we were going to play a game of how to be wiser with our money. Before we started the game Marlon told us the rules and how to play the game. First we had to think about how we were going to spend our money. Another rule was that we were able to use a credit card but if we used it we had to pay it off when he circled our team name on the board. If we were late or we didn't see Marlon circled our team name we will be fined an extra 100 dollars.

The One main thing he was always telling us was to stop think and make a good decision, spend or save. Each group that played in the game started with $1800 for a holiday trip to Fiji. Another thing we had to be careful of when we were playing the game was if we were going to spend alot or spend little to sav more of the money we had, and we had to use our money wisely because we only had $1800 dollar and nothing else. When we were playing the game we had to think about our passports,accomodation,Travel Insurance, and the activitys and food.

Our decisions were going to depend on how wise we were with our money. When we were asked to pay our passports,accomodation,Travel Insurance, and the activitys and food we had make sure we had enough money for the next part of the game. My group paid the 200 for the passports because if we were to pay it later we didn't know how much it could be if the price had gone up higher. We paid 500 for the economy flight which was the cheaper option. We also paid for the 500 dollar accomodation, which we were going to stay at a nice resort, we had another option which was to paid for the food for the whole week which was another 100 dollars meaning accomodation was 600 dollars if we paid for the food. 

Then we paid for the Travel Insurance which was 300 dollars, and we use the crdeit card so we could use the money from the bank.We had to pay it off when he circled our team name on the board. If we were late or we didn't see Marlon circled our team name we will be fined an extra 100 dollars. We paid back the bank the money and then a accident happened and that made each person from each team was in the hospital. To find out which team will have to pay the hospital bill we rolled a dice. If you got number 1,2,3,4 you will have to pay the bill but it you got 5,6 you didn't. My group was the only one who didn't have to pay the bill but everyone else did, but since they had travel insurance the bill from the bank was coverd by the bank. I enjoyed this time learning about money wise becuase it taught me alot about how you be wiser with your money.

A Moment In Time

LI: To use the language features and structure of published poem to help use write our own poem.
 

We looked at the laungauge features and structure of a poem called ‘A Moment in Time’ and used our experiences from camp to follow the structure and collaboratively create our own moment in time poem.
To describe what we heard, what we saw, how we felt and what we wondered we used our senses,adjectives and adverbs.Ajectives are words that decribe words and adverbs are when you decribe words. I found this interesting because I got to use powerful words that decribed how I felt and it decribed my emotions.


Setting

LI: To use powerful words to describe a setting so that it paints a clear picture in the mind of the reader

A setting is the place, time and environment of a story to help a reader make a connection to your narrative you need to use your words in away that helps them form a picture of what you are describing in their mind.
To do this we looked at an image and thought of 10 words that described and showed what we could see. Once we had thought of the adjectives or adverbs we used our smart searching skills to help us find synoymns that made our descriptions clearer. I found this interesting because I got a reminder about setting and how powerful a setting can be when you use the right type of words.

ATV Challenge

LI: To strengthen connections to technology.


We have been learning about technicalogic practice.  This week we have been learning about the 6 processes of Technological Design and how each one is important in the process of designing a product.
We are using the processes of technological practices to  design and build a rubber band- powered rover that can scramble across the floor. I found this interesting because we had to use the the first three steps of our design process. We used identify, investagate, and design to complete this challenge.

Gold Attitude SWIS : Social Worker In School


This week I have been doing my CARE awards and have been completing it this week. For one of my goal attitude task we had to find out what SWIS does in a school and what is a SWIS. A SWIS is a social worker in schools that help the students who need more encouragement and support when their doing something. SWIS are also their for the students and teacher to talk to. Students are able to see our social worker anytime if they need someone to talk to. In ouse school we have our own SWIS worker and her name is Lupe. She is really friendly and, she really helps other students students when they need her help. She is very kind and loves to play with some of the students at lunchtime when she has free time. I found this task fun because I never really understood what SWIS meant and never really paid attention to it until now.

Gold Attitude Tutoring Someone With An Extra Skill

This week I have been doing my CARE awards and have been completing it this week. One of these task was to tutor someone in you're class how to do something if they don't know how to do it. The person That I tutor was Jemma. Since their is alot of new student coming to our class it is very hard to do learning on a cromebook if they don't know what to do with the crombook. I helped Jemma with her blogging because she was one of the new students that came to our school this years and still finds it a bit challenging when it comes to blogging her work. I helped her out when she was trying to blog her piece of work but didn't know how to blog properly. I found this task very intersting becuase I got to help someone with an extra skill and make sure thta they were able to do it by themsevles.

Gold Excellence : 3 Novels


This week I have been doing my CARE awards and have been completing it this week. This task was about reading three novels during one term. The three novels I read was all under the same author. Her name is Liz Pichon and she has been writing the book called Tom Gate. I love reading her book because sometime what is written in the book sometimes make me laugh. I read three Tom gates books during one term and have really enjoyed reading them becuase they have been one of my favorites books to read when I have spare time at home or at school. I found this activity fun because I got to share one of my favorite authors and their book with other so that maybe they can read Liz Pichon books.

Gold Excellence : My Personal Passion

This week I have beening doing my CARE awards and have been completeting the task. One of the task was to make a DLO about my personal passion. My personal passion was to be a person who look after the animals and take good care of them. This was my personal passion because I grew up living with animals and just loved being around them. A few things that I talking about when I was doing this task was who can support me when I'm trying to achieve my personal passion, I thought about this very hard and wrote that my family with be there to support me and help me becuase they did that every other time I was trying to achieve something and I know that they will be there for me again. I found this task very intersting becuase it helped me undestand how I need to focus and how other people can be there for me when I am trying to achieve my goal.

Gold Attitude : Repersenting the School


This week I completed two of my gold attitude activitys.One was to repersent the school in an outisde function and the other one was to repersent the school at a inter school competition. The repersenting the school at a outside function was when the year sevens and eight go to tech every frinday moring. We go their to learn things that sometimes the school can not provided. The second task was when I was compeiting in the inter school function for after school netball team that played every tuestday between the time 4 to 7pm. I found this task really intersting becuase I got to tell people how our class and netball team get to repersent our school everyweek.

Maori Map

LI: To Learn the names of contries and add their maori name to their contry on the map
For this maori task we learnt about the different contrys around the world. After learning about this we had two different map to learn about. When we were doing this part of the activity we had to find the names of the different contries and then we had to translate the names of the contries into maori words and put them where they belong on the map. I found this task really fun because I did not knwo that weera means whales in maori.

Sir Isaac Newton

 LI: To use your smart searching skills to find out who Sir Isaac Newton was and how his work connects to simple machine.

This week for reading we were given a collaborative task to find out what Sir Isaac Newton had to do with simple machines. We found out Who he is and why his work is important to him. In our DLO we added one simple machine he created called the Pulley. A simple machine is a machine that makes our lives easier. 


Something I found interesting about Sir Isaac Newton was that his mother wanted him tio become a famer but he refused to become a famer.


My favourite part of this activity was learning about Sir Isaac newton because I never really understood much about him because I didn't take his work serously but now I know more about him and his work.
