Vision Board

LI: To show your goal that you want to achieve by the end of the year.
This week we have been talking about goal setting and how we can achieve these goals. Part of learning about goal setting we were asked make a vision board. A vision board is a DLO that you make about the things that you want to achieve by the end of the year. In our vision boards we could also add where we are from and things that we want to achieve in school or out of school.

Greek Gods


LI: To use our smart searching skills to find information about the Greek gods

 

Today David shared his reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers. David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. We earn CARE award badges in year 7 and 8 to show that we understand our school values. In this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information to help us complete the table.I found this activity fun because learning about greek god were very intersting. The Greek god I found most interesting was Nike goddess of victory because she likes bravery and skill and she chooses which team she will help win. You can find her at the SuperBowl, and the World Series.

Abstact Noun Poem

LI: To edit our writing using draft.

This week for writing we have been learning about abstarct poems. In writing we have two parts to our task, for the first part of the task we wrote a abstract noun poem in a group, for the second part of our learning we wrote another abstract poem in pairs. Our poem was about beauty. After writing our poemwe needed to proof read our poem. When we proof read our poems we use DRAFT. DRAFT is a acronmy that we use in writing.DRAFT stands for Delete, Rearange, Add, Fix & and Talk. In this poem we also used puncuation, metaphors, similes, the 5 senses, and an abstact noun. The 5 senses are smell, taste, hear, touch - felling & see. I found this task very intersting because learning about types of poem will help me with my writing.

Rock, Paper, Scissors Flowchart


 LI: To learn how to code the micro bit to play rock, paper, scissors.

This week for tech we have been learning about flowcharts and microbits. Micro bits are little bot that are able to coded to flash rock paper scissors on the LED screen. 

1. When I shake a the micro bit chose a ramdom number between 1 and 3.
2. I have to make the variable called hand and set this to the ramdom number.
3. If the number is 1 - the micro bit will show the symbol for paper.
4. If the number is 2 - the micro bit will show the symbol for rock.
5. If the number is 3 - the micro bit will show the symbol for scissors.

Life

LI: To write a abstract noun senses poem.

Today we had a writing task with the whole classroom for Abstract Noun poems.An abstract noun is one that refers to an idea, quality or state.A metaphor is a comparison of two things, saying one thing is the other without using ‘like’ or ‘as’.An example of abstract noun is the poem myself and my group put together by working together and learning from each other. For this task we also needed to know what the five senses are, they are smell, touch, taste, hear, see.In this activity we learnt how to understand what a metaphor is and how we use them writing.We worked in groups to collaborate on our task.This task was made into a powerful eye catching DLO.Something we found interesting about doing this task was learning how to properly structure a abstract noun poem.

Did This Happened ?

LI: To consider both perspectives
 
For reading we learnt about considering both perspectives.We were tasked to read the story about Lake Taupo to understand if the story was fact or story makes sense by saying if the story is true or fake. We wrote our opinion to see that why we picked which side to see if it was right or wrong. We wrote that taupo says according to legend which means it happened but actually is true. I found this task fun because we got to find new information about Lake Taupo.

Main Ideans

LI: To identify the main ideas in the text.
 

First to start off the task we watched a video about how Maui slowed down the sun.After watching the video we wrote down the main ideas that happened in the video into this DLO. After finding the inportant Ideas from that we find the four very important ideas. One of the four very important ideas is that Using the flax for ropes slowed the sun. When you find the four very important ideas we found the three vital idean from the four very important ideas. I found this task fun because when you find main ideans from the text that means that you understand the text throughly.

 LI: To find as many similarities and differences as you can between the video and text of “ The Beginning "

This week for reading we have been focusing on the differences of two types of ways a story can be said. This week we were finding differences and similarities from the video and text from "the Begining". This text was about our group finding things that are different and simaler bewtweeen the too. In the video verison it shows the seperation of mother earth and father sky, and in the written version it's explain the love for the two. I enjoyed this task because I got to see the differneces and similaritites bewtween two storys.

Summarising

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.
 
For reading, we have been focusing on summarising text information such as stories, articles and other texts. The text we used for this reading task was the traditional Maori story of how the world came to be. We used the summarising DLO to help us write what we think happeneds in the in the story is true. First we needed to find 20 inportant words from the story, then we had to find the 6 most important words from the 20 important words. After doing that we used those six words to make a short story about the story. I found this task intersting because I got to summarise a story in fewer words, meaning I understand what they story is about.

Finacial Capabilities

LI: To understand the budget is a plan for managing money 

This week for maths we have been focusing on our times tables. Using this learning we have done a financial capability challenge which will improve our multiplying skills, and solving it quicker. In this DLO we have picked one question to show our strategies when we are solving maths questions. I enjoyed this task because I got to get the answer more quicker when doing times tables. 

Shoe Narrative

LI: To use the 5 senses and personafication to help us paint a picture with words.

Today for writing we have been recapping about how to write a good narrative. A narrative is a made up story that people tell. With a partner we planned what the story was going to be about, and use that idea to write a good narrative. The structure of the narrative is TOPES (Title, Orientation, Problem, Explain, Solution, and Mora/Coda). Something I found interesting was that it is better to plan instead of just writing a narrative because you can look at the notes for a guide.

Cybersmart Challenge - My Digital Footstep

LI: To understand the concept of a digital footstep

Today for cybersmart we have looked at our digital footprint in the last 24 hours. The things that I have searched today were google, drive, blogger, gmail, google drawing, my class site, transum etc. This activity was to understand that everything that we do on the internet leaves a footprint. 

I enjoyed doing this activity because it tells us whatever site I go on it leaves a footprint.

C.A.R.E Awards Gold Confidence

LI: To enter or compete in an art,science or other competition.

For one of my Gold Confidence task, I needed to create a DLO about an art,science, or othr competiton that I have joined during the year. My competitons was about me joining the after school netball team.During this year we have been practising all the skills that we needed to win all the games we have left during this year. This year i have been playing goal shoot,goal attack, goal keep, and goal defence. I have enjoyed playing after school neball because it's my last year at this school and because I like netball very much.

For inquiry we were learning about simple machine.We collaborated in our group to find information about simple machines, there are six types of simple machines. Our challenge was to create diagrams (information picture) to show our diagram, we alo summarised it in 25 words..Simple machines are able to help humans in ways that they, themselves may not be able to. A lever is a simple machine used to lift objects with less amount of force. A lever is a stick that’s able to move backwards and forwards.

A wheel and axle is a two part machine. First the axle is attached to the wheel so it’s able to move very smoothly

For inquiry we were learning about simple machine.We collaborated in our group to find information about simple machines, there are six types of simple machines. Our challenge was to create diagrams (information picture) to show our diagram, we alo summarised it in 25 words..Simple machines are able to help humans in ways that they, themselves may not be able to. A screw has three main parts, the head, the tip and the threaded shank. It’s also known as an inclined plane with a wedged tip.

For inquiry we are working on simple machines. We created six DLO's about the six simple machines. This DLO is about a simple machine called the Inclined plane, an inclined plane is An inclined plane is one of the simplest machines.It’s also known as a ramp. A ramp helps your load move  easier to higher levels. We created our own drawing of what we see a pulley as.


This Labeled Diagram was fun to work on because we got to learn what the inclined plane is used for.

A wedge is one of the six simple machines. A wedge is also known as an axe. A wedge is also used to stop doors from closing and is able to break things if a lot of force is pushed into the wedge.

For inquiry we were learning about simple machine. Simple machine are able to help humans in way that they, themseves may not be able to. A pully is a type of simpole machine, it helps by lifting heavly objects with less amount of force being used. A pully has a hook,the rope, the wheel, the groove and the load. When using a pully, someone needed to be on one end and the other end will be hooked to the heavy load.

Gold Confidence : Student Survey

LI: To create a survey about a topical issue in class.

For one of my Gold Confidence task, I was required to make a google survey about a topical issue in the classroom.My google form was about learning from home.I had four students take part in this google form.In one of the questions all four partipants had similar responeses.They were because, if they were doing home learning they were able to learn new things by having their crombook with them and because they are able to practist more and focus properly without being dicstarted by their friends.

Dialouge

 LI:To understand how to use and correctly punctuate dialogue when writing.

This week we have been learning about dialogue. Dialogue is at least two or more characters talking with each other. We need to understand how to correctly write dialogues.When someone is talking in a piece of writing you need to put speech mark in the beginning and in the end of the dialogue. When writing a dialogue between two characters or more, we use speech marks (“”). I found this task very intersting because I got to have a refreasher about dialouge and what dialouge is all about.

Building A Mbot


 LI: to understand how the robot is put together so that I can fix it when something goes wrong or it glitches.



This week for tech we were learning how the Mbot operates. Today Mrs ferguson taught us how to take the mbot apart. We had to take our mbot apart bit by bit because we might of done something wrong.After we have fully taken apart we needed to take a picture of the parts of the mbot. After taking taking our mbot apart we had to reasemble it again, but we had to put it back together by ourselfs. Mrs Ferguson taught us a few tips on how to reasemble the bot properly.We had a challenge, if we could reasemble out robot properly again and then code it to move left,right, forwards, and back. Our robot sucssefuly moved after we code it so we really knew that our mobt was working properly.we had to do this in partners.

PB4L - Expectations

 LI: To know what classroom expectations are.


For PB4L we have been talking about what LS2’s expectations were in our classroom. Expectations are set in schools because they help students prepare themselves for their learning.Today we talked about what LS2 expectations are and what we can do to to make sure we know what our expectations are. In LS2, since we are the older kids in the school it is very important to have expectations because the juniors will know what expectations.

Afganistan Tourist - Brochure

 LI: To identify the main ideas in the text.


In reading we have been learning about how we identify the main ideas in a text. The text we were reader was  Afghanistan lures tourists despite warring. First we analysed the text by skim and scanning the text. Then  we  had  a learning conversation with our group so we could  identify and negotiate the main ideas in the text. The last part of our learning was to make a information brochure about the text. I found this task very intersting because our group was learning about how tourist become blinded by Afganistans beauty, as a result they do not know how dangerous it can be if their not careful.

Student Led Conference

  LI: to share our learning with our families. 



Last night we had our annual Student Led Conference of the year. This student led conference gave the students of Panmure Bridge school the opportunity to share their digital learning. Students bought their families to take a look in their classrooms and look at their work. In LS2 we all worked up to put as much of our work on the walls to show our families. For those who were coming, they had to book a time when they wanted to come and take a look at the classrooms. We made scripts beforehand so when we come to show our parents around the class we will be prepared. In LS2 lots of students came with their famillies to school to show their parents what they do in LS2, our teachers Mrs Fisi'iahi and Mrs Anderson were able to answer questions and were able to talk to the teachers about their learning process.

Book Week


 LI: To celebrate reading.


This week was Book week. Book week is a week that all students do fun things arround reading. At the end of each book week on friday all students from year 0 to 6 get to come to school in their favorite book costume. This year for Book week we also had samoan lanugage week. This week the girls in the leadership groups did the Book week assembly both in samoan and english. I enjoyed Book week very much because I was one of the presenters who got to dress up in samoan traditional clothing.



Being a Jedi In Coding

LI: To use our coding skills to move to a robot backwards and forwards.

For this week for tech with Mrs Ferguson. This week we learnt about ultrasonic sensor. On our M bot we learnt to code our robot in a way that when we upload the code to the robot it will move forward until it senses my hand and then moves back as I more my hand towards my M bot. In the front of the M bot their are two little sensors where we will learn to code. After coding our M bots the ultrasonic sensors will detect something 10cm infront of the bot.  I enjoyed being in Mrs Ferguson coding class because I got to code a M bot to sense something 10cm away from it.

CARE Awards Gold Respect

LI: To create a DLO about Stan Walker song Climb.

For this task we needed to make a DLO about Stan Walkers song Climb.Facts about Stan Walker Song was that Climb was released in 2009. His song talked about how you have to keep on going even though life is rough. During the song one of the phrases he used was really good, it was “you just have to keep your head up.” I liked this task because Bigger from stan walker is one of my favorite song.

CARE Awards Gold Respect

 LI: To create an information brochure about belonging to PBS



For this task for Gold Respect we needed to make a information brouchure about belonging to PBS. In this task I included the summer learnng journey, what the year seven and eight to every two years which is camp, the CARE values, school trips, and the pasifica and kakahaka we do at school. Things at PBS I enjoy very much is when we have the Summer Learning Journey and when the pasifica does a performence in front of the school.

Samoan Language Week

 LI: To pay it forward by creating a screencastify that teaches others how to use Samoan words and phrases.


This week is Samoan Language Week - Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa. The theme for 2021 is Poupou le lotoifale. Ola manuia le anofale which means strengthen the posts of your house, for all to thrive. In LS2 we have decided to value the measina of the language by creating a screencastify that teaches others how to use Samoan words and phrases. I found this challenge a easy because I have realtives at home that speak samoan and because I also use the same language.

CARE Award Gold Respect

 LI: To make a DLO about a Respect New Zealander.

For the last task in Gold Respect, this task was about making a DLO about a respected New Zealander. I chose Steven Adams because I already knew a bit of information on him. I picked Steven Adams for this task because, for me he was a respected leader. Why, Steven Adams is a respect New Zealander because he was one of the first maori basketball player to make it into the New Orleans Pelicans basketball team.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem that descirbes a polar bear.



 

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. I enjoyed this activity because I learnt a new type of poem that describes something or someone.

My Reading Pathway

 LI: To show my personal journey through books.

This week is book week at Panmure Bridge School, which means every class participates in a number of reading activities. One of our activities was to create a reading pathway that shows how my favourite books have changed over time. At the moment I like reading books by Raina Telgmeire because her book are full of adventures that the main charatchers have.
