Hauora Circle Map

LI: To write what I knew before we explored Hauora and after we explored Hauora.

For this task we were asked to write what we knew about Hauora before we deeply explored hauora with different activities. This was one of those activities. Before we explored hauora into different sections we had to write was we knew about hauora. I only knew Hauora is the maori belief for health and is very unique to New Zealand. Now after I learnt about it I wrote Hauora is the maori belief for health. There are four walls to hauora. Taha Tinana, Taha Wairua, Taha Whanau, and Taha Hinengaro.

My Connection To Hauora

LI: To reflect the connection I have to Hauora.
For this task we had to write down our connection to hauora. We had to put an image their to show what we look like.We had to write our connections about My community, My connections , Hauora,  and my family. We also had to reflect what our connection were to these topics.I really enjoyed this activity because I got to reflect my connections and to look at what my reflection was and if I could add to my connections.

Hauora

LI: To understand what happens when one of the four walls fall down.

For this task we had to work in a groups of four because we were given a challenge to make a house but we had to write each of the four name down on each piece of paper because we had to try and stand them up. This took time because they would always fall down. We saw the learning behind it. The learning was when all four wall are standing you are confident, outgoing and more but when one walls down the other walls become unbalanced and then you become isolated, scared, and you would have a lack of confidence.

Hauora

LI: To create an information poster that explains the fours walls of hauora.

This week we have been exploring Hauora. Hauora is the maori belief of health that is very unique to New Zealand. There are four walls to Hauora. They are Taha tinana, Taha Whanau, Taha Wairua, Taha Hinengaro. If one wall falls down the other wall will become unstable and when that happens your metal and emotional well being will become bad, you would become isolated from people, you will have a lack of confident in yourself, also you will not look after your body properly.

Making Connection To Problem Solving

LI: To explore problem solving.

Today we were created our own little tangram puzzle. We created our tangram puzzles with a A4 paper and a pair of scissors, we had to listen carefully to the instructions so we didn't get it wrong. Tangrams are an ancient chineses puzzle that was used for people who were on boats and for people who could afford them.Tangrams were popular in America and England. When we were doing this activity we lost our internet connection. While we were doing this we were following instructions, collaborating, trying options, listening, asking questions, finding a solution and communicating. We used problem solving skills to make animals from our shapes.

10 - 5 - 7 - 10 - 10 | Writing

LI: To use the 5 - 7 - 10 method to write creatively.

Today for writing we used the 5 - 7 - 10 method but instead of doing the same thing we already did we changed it a bit to help us write more properly. We extended the method by having a 10 minutes planning time before we start writing the actual writing then it was the same routine
5 - 7 - 10.Then we added another ten minutes so we could use D.R.A.F.T. This way of this method was really great especially the 10 minutes to plan because I got to brainstorm my ideas and to write words down.

D - delete

Experimenting with Ultraviolet Light

LI : To find the most effective UV filter.

Ls2 has been trialling the electronic sensors for the Kiwrious project. We are working with Suranga,Sonia,Evan,Dawn, and Yvonne from the AHL at Auckland University.I found that the clear plastic was most effective to keep Zally our animals safe because they are very allergic to UVL ( UltraViolet Light ). My DLO will show you how I did this and what material we tested out with the sensor. The two material that I used was clear plastic and green cellophane.

5 - 7 - 10 Writing

LI: To use the 5 - 7 - 10 method to write creatively.

This task was about using the 5 - 7 - 10 method to write a creative story. We were given a image to brainstorm an piece of writing using  the method our teacher gave us. The image that we had gotten was about a thunderstorm and people inside the windmill that are scared and frightened. I like this task because it showed me how to use this method in writing a creative story and what was challenging about this task was trying to make my story more interesting and creative.

Lightning never strikes twice, does it?
That was the question that occupied their frightened minds as they crouched, huddling together, next the pile of dusty sacks in the base of the windmill...

My dad owned a windmill so he would send us their to do chores. We were just sweeping up the hay when all I hear is my brother DJ screaming. Then I see the thunderstorm right before  my eyes. There we were just hiding from the thunderstorm. My brother and I were terrified.

This was the first time I ever in a witnessed a storm this big and terrifying. All I could think of was running back to our house in the storm but would we take that risk ? I know for a fact that my brother would never take that big of a risk. Because he is a shy an quiet person.

Why should I do ? My brother is behind me trying to not cry while I just sit their thinking what should I do? I have never experienced being in a thunderstorm so I wouldn't know what to do or if I have made the right decision.

We always get back home a 6 : 30 but according to my watch we have 7 minutes until it’s 7 :00.
It’s now 7 :00 and we are still hiding in the windmill. The storm has just gotten worst. I’m worried because we aren’t at home and my parents are worried sick. Half an hour later and were still here.

Tech - Pizza

LI: to make pizza.

Today at food tech we followed the recipe to make beef and barbecue pizza. The hardest part of the pizza was dicing the onions because they make our eyes hurt and then we cry. The easy part was adding the topping.

First we had to get our equipment and then we had to get two tortilla wraps as the base for our pizza. Then we had to get a 3/4 of cheese and 4 tablespoons of tomato sauce. We had to dice our onions. We also had to peel the carrots then grating the carrot. We had to slice three mushrooms.

Then we had to spread our sauce on our tortilla wraps then add all our ingredients. We had to fry our onions before they could go on our wraps.

We got a quarter of mince and we had to shape them into equally small round balls. After that we had to add our meat balls on last with the cheese. We cooked our food for 20 to 25 minutes then we got to eat it. It tasted amazing and it was very delicious.

Careers - SPCA

LI: To explore a career that interests me

Our teacher informed us to take a career quest quiz to find the job that interest us most. There were 76 questions in total. We had to see if any of these careers or jobs you would like to do. I chose SPCA it stands for society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. I like this job because you could help injured and homeless animals and restore their health back to 100% percent.

Inquiry - Optical Illusion

LI: To explain what an optical illusion is.

For this we had to look up what is a optical illusion. This week Mr. Johnston taught us about optical illusions and the reason why our eyes and brain gets tricked so easily. We had to make a DLO about optical Illusion and have what the meaning is,example, and informations.

Venn Diagram - Makariki

LI: To compare and contrast.

Today we have completed this venn diagram. This venn diagram is comparing what people did for Matariki back in the day, and what they do now that is different. We also write what people do the same for Matariki. This DLO is created by Sakina, Florence, Sakshi and I. We all worked collaboratively to get 4 facts for each section. We enjoyed this activity as we were able to find out more on Matariki.
