The day before christmas my family was rushing through shop to shop doing last minute shopping. All my cousin was tried from walking around the mall for 2 hours, though it felt like decades. When we got home we ate and got ready to go to bed, as tomorrow was christmas day. The kids were asleep and the parents. Christmas day came and everon gwas rushing to prepare the barbecue at the park for our family. When we got to the park we started to put the tent up and then started decorating the tree. After decorating the tree we brang all the presents from the cars to under the tree. Once everyone started to turn up we had our christmas feed then started to give out the presents. I was really happy about the presents I got this year even though lockdown occurred. Once we were all done with the presents we started to play cricket. Christmas day was so fun that I couldn't sleep because I got to sleep over at my cousin house who live in otara and barley comes to family gatherings. I loved this years christmas and would love to have another one like this.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Fisi'iahi.

SLJ Week 1 Step it up Challenge: Rise up
Today, for my eighth Step it up Summer Learning Journey Task, I have made a screencastify in which I have sang the poem that I created in the Kick Start Activity. This task is the second part of the original task that's is the rise up task. I found doing this activity very interesting because I laughed a lot with my cousins on my mistake and enjoyed watching me but at the same time I also learnt an important message through the poem I created, which is to never think you can't do things. You can do thing only if you try it and see for itself and see if you made it and to never give upon your dreams.

Today I learnt that when it is very hot and the air is shimmering Tānerore performs the haka for his mother, Hine-Raumati. This happens in summer as the land heats up. Our challenge was to think about this while we designed our own kowhaiwhai pattern to represent summer. My pattern is like the rainbow because it has the eight colours of the rainbow. I found this activity fun because I got to be creative and got to have fun at the same time.

SLJ Week 1 Activity 2
Leaving a quality blog comment on another student’s blog helps us make connections to new learning by asking open ended questions that encourage a reply and motivate the blogger to ask their own question in return. This is how a comment thread starts and when that happens we make connections with a wider audience who we can learn with and from.

Digital Board Game
LI: To create a digital board game for the juniors
This week we designed digital board games with a Christmas theme to play with the junior students. To play the game successfully they will need to read and follow the instructions, then use their counting skills to move around the board. This task topic was about christmas, it could be anything like santa lost dasher of rudolph has lost the sleigh. This task was very tricky because we had to draw and make everything ourselves with take quite a long time to draw detail on you santa.Today we showed our Year 4 students how to make their own games. How you play this game first you decided who is blue or purple then blue with start of by clicking on the dice which will take you to the online dice roller then you click the dice, once you get your number for example you get five you move your online counter to the number five. If the is a candy on it then it mean that you could to two spaces forward. If you land on a candy cane you need to go back five spaces backwards, and if you land on a tree you can go four space upwards meaning if you land on the number 46 then you go up to the number 86 .It was really fun because teaching the juniors how to make things help me become more confidence in sharing our learning.Operation Christmas Drop
LI: To write a summary of the story behind the Operation Christmas Drop in her own words.
The above presentation is a collaborative work of Sakshi and me which showcases a summary of Operation Christmas Drop. This tradition is being followed for 68 years, providing basic supplies to over 60 islands supporting more than 20,000 islanders. By providing financial as well as educational support, they help the islanders make a fresh start because they lose whatever they have in natural disasters. I think these small donations are not just food and books but they are something that can make a huge difference in the lives of other people. I learned more about this topic after completing this task and also came to understand how individuals support each other as a random act of kindness.

Decorating The Tree
Today we completed our christmas decorations. Our client Mr Johnston asked us to make new decorations for the tree in the office. Once we finished our designs we went to the office to decorate the tree for christmas. The christmas decorations represented the students that go to panmure bridge school. We were given our brief our what our christmas decoration needed to have for example it needed to be 10 centimeters, 3D effects, and had to be related to your culture. Their were types of holidays that we could pick when we were making our design. They were Christmas, Hanukkah,Eid, And Diwali. The tree in the office looked very pleasant because all the decoration looked beautiful. I was very pleased with the end product and would like to do this again. The tree looked very attractive.
Illustrated Story
This week for writing we were learning about quoquoi stories. Quoquoi writing tells people how or why something works or does. Our challenge this week was to create a pourquoi story that we would illustrate and share with our junior classes. A pourquoi story tells us why something is the way it is. Our story tells why/how the snakes got it scales. This morning we shared our stories with Room 2 and Room 4, and they loved listening to them. I really enjoyed sharing our animation because I think our story was really intersting.
Design Technology Challenge
LI: To design and make a holiday decoration that fits the client brief.
The photos above show my end product or follow up from the design technology challenge. We started by unpacking what the design process was. Our client, Mr Johnston asked LS2 to make christmas decoration. The specification from Mr Johnston was for our decorations to be 10 centimeters, 3D effects, and to make a design from our culture. Then it was time to think of what type of holiday we would make our decorations in that represent us. They were Eid,Hanukkah,Christmas,Diwali. I picked christmas because I thought is was easier when I mixed my culture with the christmas holiday.Once we picked our holiday we started to draw our design on a piece of paper. After doing our design we started using felt for us to pratis of stichting skills. We used the running stitch and the blanket stitch. After we got good at it we started on our proper design. My first design was a turtle with a santa hat. I also added embellishments to my design so it could be more dazzling. I was very pleased with my design because I thought it was made to a very high standard and was made with a lot of effort put in. After that I made more design because I was pleased with my design. I made a flower and snowman and a cup of milk. I had to be creative with the colours because their wasn't enough felt for everybody.

Art Colouring Book : Step It up Challenge
The elements of art is one of the most important things you use when doing art. When I combine all the elements I create a very good picture, art, or painting.Using the elements of art included lines, shape, form, texture, colour, space, and value.
Lines a used of some hard piece of surface. Their are many types of lines such as, wavy lines, straight lines, and many more. When the lines are put together they form a shape. Shapes come in all types of sizes, they can also be geometric when lines are put together. When shape are used they create type of forms.
Shapes have many different types of form when used.Space is the amount of height and width you have between your art, painting, or picture.Space is one of the most things you need when you are doing art.Colours are one of the most expressive element of art. It is also used when you are showing space. Value is the lightness or darkness of a colour. When a dark or light colour is together they create contrast with form texture. Texture is how the art feels. It could be rough, soft, smooth.
Art is all about the elements. In one of my art I used some of the elements of art. Some of the elements of art I used was space, line, shapes. Using these elements really helped me with my art, for example one of my art was a bunch of lines together forming a shape. I used lines, shapes, space, to create my painting.
Combining the elements of art is one of the most important part when doing art. Such as having the right tools, paper, and a right place you could do it in. Even when you paint lines it still includes the elements of art. Showing the elements could really bring detail and could also express the story behind it.
This morning we tried one of this year’s Kick Start Summer Learning Journey activities. The purpose of this task was to experiment with colours by mixing colours from the original palette with pop colours. This allowed us to recolours famous painting or images of landmarks around the world. For this task we were asked to make a T.E.E.L paragraph about the step it up challenge we have been doing. T.E.E.L stands for topic starter, eleaborate, evidence, and linking back to the topic starter

Tech Reflection - Science With Mrs Sharma
This week for tech was our last week with Mrs sharma for science. This week's topic was about plants and food makers.First we learnt about plants, then we were given five questions about plants to answer then we would share our thinking. After sharing our thinking we watched a video more about plants and we were also asked to take note. One fun fact about plants is that plants are useful to animals because they are also part of the food chain. Next we were tasked to find ten leafs and write the size, texture, colour, thickness, and the patterent of the leaf. I enjoyed finding more about plants and what they do for a living.

Respecting Teachers - CARE Awards - Gold Respect
For this task I was asked to create a video about how you could respect teachers. When respecting teachers you could do what they tell you to do the first time, don't disrespect them, and don't talk back to the teacher when they are talking to you and listen to the teachers when they are talking to the class. What I enjoyed from this task was making a video about how you could respect teacher. I liked this because I could show and tell other kids about showing respect to their teachers and help them being a better student.

Book Club - Bok Choy
LI: to unpack the text together
Fau, Lukah, Chris, Vayan, Sulia, Azatulah and I were introduced to the activity, Book Club by Mrs Anderson. Each member of the book club has a role to take each week. The 7 roles are, The Discussion Director, Connector, Summariser, Passage Picker, Word Master, Illustrator and Meeting Report.
The book that we read this week was called “Bok Choy” by Paul Mason. The moral of the story was describing the differences between the chinese people compared to the english. This story unpacked the racism faced by chinese miners, who came to New Zealand in 1800s to seek their fortune in the gold fields. From this story we learnt it is important to accept one another despite who we are and how we look.
Once we had completed the tasks for our roles, we reported back to the group and shared our thoughts and ideas. The Discussion Director’s asked questions and guided everybody to be on the right track. The Summariser, picked 20 most important words from the story, to 6, and used it to summarise the text. The Passage Picker would pick a part of the story and write why it’s important to you. The Connector had to make connections to themself, to text, and to the world from the book. . I enjoyed that we had a rich conversation about our learning without hep from the teacher.

Te Whanau Raukura Performance
This week we had a professional kapa haka group perform items for our school. The groups name is called Te whanau Raukura. When they entered the hall they blew the conch showing us they culture. The first song they sang was them saying thank you for having them perform to us.Each maori item they used they explained the meaning behind it, what it's for, and how you use it.They used taiaha, poi and te rakau in their performance. They usually go to the Auckland museum and perform their. When they danced they used their item in special way to express how they dance, also the music they used was also helping them expressing their dance in different ways.Finishing their performance we were all split into our class so we can have a game with each of the performers. We had Bekah teach us our game. We played Pukana. How you play this is that you need a group of people to form a circle then someone would say. Ringa Pakahe A then pukana he pukana ha the you would start of pointing you hand like the maori people would do when they dance and every time someone did that to you you had to do the same thing to the next person beside you or to the same person. I enjoyed seeing experienced people performing so I could see what it's like for me to do kapa haka in front of people because I'm also in the kapa haka group for school.

Exploring our national current events
For this task we learnt about Current Events. We used this words to find out about events around the world timeliness, relevance, magnitude, unexpectedness, impact, somebody important, oddity, conflict, something negative, continuity, emotions and progress.Authors write for a purpose (reason). These reasons are to persuade, inform or entertain (PIE). Each day, newspaper editors around the world must make decisions about which stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening in New Zealand, thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google map. I worked with Sakshi,Matthew,Chris, & Pouvi.

Math : Highest Common Factor
LI: To create a google draw and explain the HCF with a meaning and example.
The above google draw is a collaborative work of Sakshi and me which showcases our learning on Highest Common Factor (HCF) under the topic of math. We first started by solving basic question and follow up worksheets to understand the topic step by step. Then we started to make this google draw. To explain the task in detail we have added the meaning, strategy, example and an image of the workout. I found this topic very interesting because we never knew about such a strategy and to solve these questions. I really liked working with Afatia and would love to do more tasks like this.
Choice Explanation : Pollution
Do you enjoy the fact that 1 million sea creatures lose their life from our silly actions ? This is cause by our laziness and because instead of putting it in the rubbish bin we purposely throw it on the ground. Our silly actions have started to affect the way other people live and how sea creatures die. You may think throwing a piece of rubbish on the ground doesn’t do anything but behind the scene it does a lot of things to harm our oceans.
It only getting worse by the minute. Specifically 8 million piece of trash is found in our waters, we tend to endanger our sea animals especially our sea birds, seals, and turles. Our rubbish isn’t only on our oceans it also pollutes our river banks, lagoons, lakes, and our beaches. 100 million pieces of trash is found in our oceans. By the time next year comes we will have no fresh water, food, and places to go because we tend to misuse plastic and it ends up in our oceans and more.
For example our sea bird die because they get confuse with plastic and tiny fish and then they end up eating the wrong stuff. When they keep eating plastic sometimes it get caught up in their stomach and throat which makes them unable to eat or digest the plastic. 1 million sea birds die each year just from eating plastic.
Same as turles and marine animals such as dolphins, seals, and whales.100,000 marie animals and turtles die each year from our plastic. Due to this horrid news we have less and less amount of sea creatures in the entire ocean then it did before plastic was made.Their are more plastic than sea life in our ocean which is bad. When next year comes we will have a ocean full of plastic instead of fish and sea creatures. Did you know that one piece of plastic take up to 100 million years for it to decompose, imagen having 8 million piece of plastic every year in our ocean.
We need to stop this before it is too late. Lets make it possible for the next generation to have a healthy looking ocean with lot of marine animals and sea life. We can help everyone by picking up piece of plastic that you find on the ground.
First we had fime minute timer to plan our ideas for making a wise choice about pollution. After we planned we we asked to have a 40 minute timer to se could write our explanation.I did my explanation on pollution and how we weren't going to have a bright future if their was going to be so much pollution on our ocean. We used the acronym DRAFT and TIIC. DRAFT stands for Delete,Rearrange,Add,Fix, and Talk. TIIC stands for Title,Introduction,Information, and Conclusion.

LI : To learn how to use and understand fractions
Today was the last week with Mr Fisiiahi for this term. This week we learnt about fractions. We also used the words twice, double, thirds, fourths, and fifths. We first played dicey. We first learnt about what is fraction. Then we learnt about how to make a whole with 1 part of the shape for example we had to make one whole from 1/4 and 1/3. This task showed us how to use fractions and how to part and make a whole piece of shape. The last thing we played was Frog jump and Tower of hanoi.

Inquiry
LI: To think deeply about a change I would make
If I was the Prime Minister the one thing that I will change their will be no more pollution because it is killing our marine and sea life.Specifically 8 million piece of trash is found in our waters, we tend to endanger our sea animals especially our sea birds, seals, and turles.
I would do this because 100 million pieces of trash is found in our oceans. By the time next year comes we will have no fresh water, food, and places to go because we tend to misuse plastic and it ends up in our oceans and more, and so we can have a healthy ocean full with fish and marine life.

LI: Identify patterns and relationships between data
Today my group and I worked with Mr Fisi’iahi. We learnt about statistics and analysing our data. We first got our information from Mr Fisi’iahi then we were asked to analyse the information then gather the data. Today our wondering was about whether teens use their phone more often then pre - teens. Our results showed that there were 10 teens who use their phone and 6 pre - teens don’t have phones. Our learning was about trying to analyse, gather, and find the statistics in the information that was given to us. We used data cards to find our statistics.

LI: To look for evidence in the data and the images to infer what might be happening.
The above presentation is the collaborative work of Lily, Sakshi, Liletina and me. It showcases what we did in today's Reading class as well as the new words and topics we came to know about. Our challenge was to observe the images and find a conclusion. The rule we followed was that you cannot speak and you negotiate to tell that your point is important. We also learned that science is empirical which means that science is based on observations. We can also say that there is no conclusion with an observation. After completing this challenge we came to know the meaning of several words that are used in biology. We are also very happy that we got a chance to work as a team and discuss our work.

Algebraic With Mr Fisi’iahii
Today my group and I learnt Algebraic equations with Mr Fisi’iahi. We started off by finding out the values of the animals. The animals we did were Piwaiwaka,Gecko,Kiwi,Tuatara and Pukeko. We summed up an answer then we simplified the answers to make it easier to understand and explain what's happening. We created a DLO with our algebraic equations for Mr Fisiah . I really enjoyed working with my partner and my group to answer the questions we’re trying to solve. These tasks and questions help us understand and explain what Algebra is. Can you solve this equation.I enjoyed learning about algebra and creating equations.
Vincent Van Gogh Painting
Today Afatia, Sakshi, Lily and I were recreating the style of Vincent Van Gogh sunflower painting. We learnt how to draw what you see not what you think you see.We also thought about using up most of the space and thinking about the tone, shading and where the light comes from.We made different types of tones from one colour to give our flowers a better effect. When we were doing our sunflowers we had to make layers so the would look realistic. We also had to think about not overloading the paint brush, and thinking about the brush stroke direction. We were created sharp edges and straight lines.

Screencastify - How to find a class blog
The above screencastify is created by Liletina, Afatia, Lily and me under the topic of cybersmart. The reason we created this video is to guide the students or parents who are new to our school and do not know how to access something. We first chose the topic of our video which is to reach to a class blog. We first created our script on a piece of paper and then decided the dialogues each person will say. Once we were ready we created the screencastify from my chromebook. We made a couple of mistakes at first but we then got the confidence from trying it again and again. I liked that we could showcase our learning through a video and it could be helpful.
Duffy Books At School
Today we got our own duffy books. The books I were was Amulet book 7 and Star wars Jedi Academy, The attack of the furball.I like to thank Duffy for giving out books to students in our school. Our school has been getting books from Duffy books for quite a long time. Duffy books are really great because they get kids to read more and it becomes great for their parents because they can see that their child is having fun when the read books.I thank DBIS for my books because it encourages me more to read more books everyday. I am looking forward to read the Amulet book because I really enjoy reading these types of books.

Science Main Ideas
LI: to find the most vital ideas from the information to help us answer the question “What is science?”.
This DLO is identifying the ideas of science which we have learnt from the information we have gained. To find the vital information, we negotiated by collaborating and communicating with our team. We shared our opinions and ideas, we took notes and from them we selected and rejected information to get to our final conclusion.
For us the 3 main vital ideas are:
Science is the discovery of What, Why, and How events happen
The three main branches of science are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
There are two main categories of science, and they are Basic and Applied Science
